HB 1618

Overall, I think the more food in the woods, the better though.
This we can all agree on...the more food for wildlife the better.

What is a healthy source of food and whats best for all wildlife is where we part ways.

Whats the most cost effective way to feed wildlife is also something opinions vary greatly on.....couple bucks in chainsaw gas will feed way more deer than any feeder.

North Alabama, like much of the South east has seen a decline in turkey numbers.
Is feeding corn the singular cause? Doubtful...likeky not. But studies show aflatoxins are deadly to poults...certainly doesnt help.

Food plots done correctly can feed wildlife year around....most (not all) feeders are not managed year around....as evidence of pallets of "deer corn" seasonally available at walmart and tsc shows....high quality stuff.

But hey...everybody has an opinion and viewpoint on the topic....to me the risk isnt worth the minimal return on investment.

Not casting stones...remember the OP asked "for or against baiting on private property?" So, I'm against.

Thank you for your input. If it passes I could use my feeders year round, not just off season. I buy CoOp deer feed pellets. Yes it does have some corn in it. I like keeping the deer on my property and healthy. JMO😁🦌

Yeah...I'd say people like you who would invest the money to feed Co-op deer pellets 365 days a year are in the minority and I doubt very many people in favor of HB1618 have any interest in feeding pelletized deer feed year around.
Especially enough feed to improve herd health and to hold them in a certain area.
That is a serious commitment to a feed program most wont make....and we can agree to disagree that its not healthy to concentrate deer in high numbers around a feeder day after day....I know, the deer in your area are doing good and thats great, but in general its not a good idea or natural.

I do hear what your saying. But this being the second year doing off season feeding has shown a big difference in numbers and the health. The deer look a lot healthier. I have 2 feeders that put out 1 gallon in the morning and one gallon in the evening. Every time I go to refell there is no left over feed anywhere. After talking with a biologist he said that I might cut back during the summer months. We had no acorn crop this past season. I feel my feed program is working. Not for everyone I know.

Yes...but I'm sure another bill will come up on the same topic in the future...its more or less turned into a conversation on if baiting should be legal or not.
As expected...its back...difference now is it includes baiting for deer and swine...on private and leases.

Maybe the funds raised from the "bait privilege license" could go towards CWD research or to study the decline of the eastern wild turkey in the south east?...but wait...that might be a conflict of interest? We're told not to feed or concentrate deer where theres a risk of spreading CWD...oh well, maybe the money can be used for something benifical to wildlife? Gotta feed those hogs where we can kill'em!

I'm wondering what the license will cost? Just saying.😁
