I think there's a lot with to this mike243. The problem I've had is coming up with a standardized method of analyzing pressure changes. Pressure can be falling slow or falling fast. It can fall and then rise within the window of calculation. Finding some hard and fast rule where these values are called "X" and these values are called "Y" has eluded me.
Thank you for your input.Depends on which moon calendar you use. One says hunt when the moon is directly overhead. One says when it's directly underfoot. One says when the sun and moon are both on the horizon. And there's at least half a dozen other moon calendars to hunt by. Funny thing about em though, they all pick the best days to hunt between November 5th and 15th.
Bottom line, doesn't make any difference. Get out there and hunt!
Not a thing! And my previous statement is definitely just my opinion as well. Part of the fun is trying to figure them out for sure. If anyone posts their findings on their own place(s) I'll definitely be interested in reading what is discovered.Valid points but what's wrong with doing a little homework on your home range. I couldn't agree more. I originally set up all my studies to look at what hunters were seeing. My research was about trying to be a more successful hunter. Basically, from a hunter's perspective, when do deer/bucks move most. Notice I didn't say, "When do deer move most?" That's a completely different thing. That's what GPS-collar studies are for. Once I started collecting enough trail-camera data, then I started looking at deer movement through the cameras' eyes, which is 24/7. However, even that isn't looking at deer movement in total. Using camera data still has the bias of where the cameras are located, and I place cameras in the types of set-ups we hunt. I don't place cameras back inside thick cover, and that's probably where most mid-day movement occurs, so I'm going to miss that in my data.
IF you have ever used a software like Excel, I would highly recommend using it to store your data. Not only is it easy to update, but the ability to also make calculations across a large number of records automatically is a HUGE benefit., well above my level. I plan to go back over each photo and with pincel and paper chart moon phase, time, type deer or both, by date from September to January. I hoping this will give me when the best times for movement and what was the collation to the moon phase. Like I said this is a 600 acre farm with rolling hills of hardwood with a creek bottom. It also has hay fields 2, approximately 12 acres. Camera's covered most of of the property.
I hunt to hunt it's my world. But studying the deer in your area does help.Can a computer program ever predict with perfect accuracy when the best time is to be afield? Absolutely not. As you stated, far too many environment variables, such as weather, as well as sudden changes to the habitat and hunting pressure (especially on neighboring properties). However, for those with limited time, who need to schedule vacation days from work, can a computer program greatly increase your odds by placing a hunter afield on days that have traditionally produced peak movement during hunting hours for that property? Oh yes, very much so!
