I have been hunting every weekend as it is the only time I can go. Today I am getting off a little early and going this afternoon.

The turkeys on my land follow a pattern every year, but this year are behind schedule. My original plan was to go to public land to an area I know I saw some turkey and I know where they normally roost. I have a cell cam on the one field I have on my property and low and behold at 6:30 this morning a strutter came through following 5 hens.

I have been seeing 4 hens almost every time I go and this morning I noticed 5 showed up in the first pic, and then there he was.

Question. Should I go to my land this afternoon or follow my plan and go to public?

I promised my nephew I'd take him tomorrow on his place in Lebanon, so I can't go tomorrow AM at my place, but can get there Sunday AM.

If he's the only bird that you have a pic on your land this year, I'd pass til the last week. That is, assuming, that there is little chance that someone around you might get him. I'd let him try to produce as many babies as possible. Especially, if you have other options.

Now, if you know that there are others in the vicinity, then that's different.

That's the issue. in years past I have had a group of 8-10 Toms starting in Dec. and now that the cattle farm sold and is being re-purposed to be a brewery and events venue (construction daily), they disappeared. The issue is I don;t think they died or went too far, just further from my land. This was the first one I have seen during season there, but I did get a pic of a tom a week before Juvi, but don't know if it is the same bird. I assume the others are still out there somewhere, though I do not know if they will ever come back my way. :(

hope you went after the bird at home. He may not be there tomorrow depending on where his girls lead him

I saw him that afternoon (followed the advise given), but he never would come onto my property, because the ladies would not come. I did get 1 out of 5 on me, but the other 4 stayed put. They ended up leading this joker by me at 25 yds, but on my neighbor's property, so I let him walk. Saturday he gobbled 2x that I heard on the limb and his hens led him the other way.

kk... can you see the back of your property from a vantage point where you won't spook him? AND, if he's on the property, can stalk to within 100 yards to setup and begin calling sequence? If so (to both), I'd check for him twice daily until you know he's on your property without hunting him day after day after day and potentially pushing him off. Once he's back on you, I'd move in on him and try to work him.

One of my small farms (40 acres) that usually had birds in the past was devoid of turkeys this year. I still checked it twice daily from the road, and during the course of the season I saw only 3 birds ever. All 3 were gobblers, and we killed all 3. Never saw a hen or any other turkey for that matter on the property.
