Last night at 9 pm, a thunderstorm rolled thru in the distance. I just happened to be out with the dogs when a loud boom and lightning lit up the sky. Off on the ridge across from me, what sounded to be 2 gobblers fired off. Latest I had ever heard a gobble after dark. I thought night gobblins, lol.

I dont believe there is such a thing.
Have you never heard a gobble after shooting another Tom, or after nearby thunder, or maybe from a loud woodpecker, owl, crow, etc.? I've watched a guy cause young jakes to gobble when he yelled "HEY" at them really loud. Not that they are the smartest of the species, but it was fun to see.

Believe it or not, there is such a thing as an uncontrolled "shock" or impulse gobble.

A few years ago we had a storm and the wife took the dog out about 1am. She woke me up. Every time it thundered about 20 gobblers down the valley fired up. Coolest thing ever.

I have heard them once while camping up to about 10 at night.

I've heard turkeys gobble at night in UT and IL when hunting there.

Of course I have, Ive been chasing these things for over 40 years. You said uncontrolled, if you had just said shock, I agree. They CAN keep their mouth shut if they choose to is all Im saying.

had birds roosting in trees around a parking lot where i worked for three years. any noise with good volume could trigger those idiots. you could slam a door, honk the horn, yell, they'd gobble. dang things would be strutting in between parked cars when the sun came up...

I got out of the truck last year at 435 am and 2 county cops were coming up the rd I was parked on with their sirens blaring. There was a turkey gobbling his head off up the hill at the sirens.

i used to hunt near a shooting range on Cherokee. was a couple of toms up there that gobbled every time a .22 went off. thought about carrying a .22 blank pistol around as a "shock gobble" call.
