TWRA IS ASKING THE PUBLIC FOR INFORMATION IN DEATH OF TELLICO SWIMMER STRUCK BY BOAT
Loudon, Tenn.---Preliminary results of an autopsy performed this morning on the body of a swimmer who went missing on Tellico Lake reveal that the victim had been struck by a boat. TWRA and the Loudon Co. Sheriff's Office are asking the public to contact them with any information.
Following a search of over two weeks, rescue crews recovered the body of Michael Carnock Sr., 55, from Maryland yesterday morning on Tellico Lake downstream from Jackson Island. Based on the injuries to his body at the time of recovery, investigators became concerned that the victim had been struck by a boat. Officials from both TWRA and LCSO requested an autopsy that has been performed this morning and according to TWRA Boating and Law Enforcement Investigator Capt. Matt Majors, "Preliminary findings of an autopsy performed on the victim reveal injuries consistent with being struck by a vessel."
Witnesses say that Mr. Carnock had gone for a swim on Tellico Lake in the area of Jackson Island on the morning of May 15 around 10 a.m. and never returned. TWRA is asking anyone who was boating on Tellico Lake in this area on the morning of May 15 and has any information about the incident to please contact the TWRA dispatcher at 1-800-831-1174.
