Also, I saw somebody else make a post on another site that made me think a little.

If Currie had done all of this today, the hire would have went through without a hitch most likely. Everybody would have been at work and students would have been in class. Dodged it bigtime.

Idunno, The Internet Mob would have still been alive.

Where Tennessee screwed up most in this Coaching search IMO is not firing Jones a month or 6 weeks ago and hiring a search firm. I still think TN is a top 10 job Nationally so they can turn this mess around, but Currie should be fired immediately.

If that is true???

Why aren't the top 10 coaches lining up for the job ?

Reports are that Currie initiated talks with Schiano after the Ga game.

Who was the last top name coach to change schools? They don't. Fisher may move, but it would be a mutual partying of ways. Nowadays all schools have money. All offers can be matched.
Cutcliff would have been a fool to leave Duke for UT. He avgs 7 games/yr and they will build a statue of him.
After Spurrier, Fl went through Zook, Meyer was an up-and-comer that worked out, Muschamp and Mcelwain.
Notre Dame had to get a coach from Cincinnati.

Many reasons. Most top 10 coaches are happy where they are employed. But there are other top tier coaches that might be (or have been a month ago) lured away by a dumptruck of money. I think TN could have gotten Fisher, Mullen, certainly Petrino, maybe Kelly if they would have gone through the normal channels(a search firm) and not waited until other jobs came open. Kiffin might even come back for the opportunity to beat Saban.

Currie has botched what 2 or 3 coaching hires now? What makes him (and others involved) think he can do it on his own this time?

Kirby Smart
Lane Kiffin
Dan Mullen
Sumlin
Petrino
Mark Richt

Heck, if I were in charge of a coaching search at a major school, I'd offer everyone even if they were thought to be impossible hires. Nick Saban, David Cutcliffe, Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, Fisher, Peterson, James Franklin, Petrino, Jim Harbaugh Mike Gundy, Mark Richt etc... The worst they can say is no thanks. Seriously there has to be 200 or more better coaches to offer who are better than Schiano (and without the baggage). You never know what private circumstances they might have going on in their lives that might make them move.

What were the other hires Currie botched? He hasnt even been here a year. Baseball hire? I dont follow baseball much so IDK. Pretty sure the baseball hire and now the football hire are the only searchs hes had so far.

He has botched the only hire that matters, thats for sure.

Oh, I thought he hired Dooley and Jones. My mistake then. ...but still why not go the traditional route and hire a firm. UCLA and FL were able to land respectable coaches in their searches, why not TN.

My point was big name coaches at p5 schools don't leave.

They didn't hire a search firm because Schiano was Currie's main target as dictated by Jim Haslam. The hire was leaked by someone in the AD's office yesterday expecting a backlash from boosters and alumni in an effort to stop the hire. It was basically a covert operation.

No offense Bama but you arent listening to us.

The Haslam family control TN football. Everybody else can, why cant TN? Haslams. John Currie was ramrodded into the AD position by Haslam. Currie is not new to TN or the Haslam way. He was here and he was instrumental in the firing of Fulmer. David Blackburn was the leading candidate for the job when Currie got in. Blackburn, by all accounts is a TN guy that would have been devoted to making TN football great again. But he would not be a yes man to Big Jim, thus Currie was snuck in the back door. Schiano was the guy all along. They made first contact about him after the UGA game. He was they guy. Hence no need for a search firm. He was the the cheapest hire available, with no buyout Im pretty sure. He was also a guy that the Haslams are in love with back to his NFL days. They tried to hire him in Cleveland but the deal was shot down by the GM at that time which, ultimately led to his firing. Haslams have been wanting him ever since Belicik gave him a ringing edorsement. Kinda like the endorsement Saban gave TN about Derek Dooley.

If your interested, heres a link talking about Haslam, the Browns and Schiano.

Exactly. We have been force fed this bovine excrement for too long. Ef the whole Haslam family.
I have heard that Bill Haslam is planning on basically self appointing himself the president of the university at some point in time. Unless a coach worth a dam just falls out of the sky, TN football is done for years.

Also, some of the other boosters are trying to take some the power back from Haslam. It's being lead by Charlie Egren(Dish Network for BamaProud), actually it's being lead by Egren's son, but it's daddy's money.
During the Fulmer years, the power booster was Thunder Thornton. Thunder has been relatively quiet for years, but this should get him jumpstarted.

I understand all of this except why does Haslam want to destroy Tennessee football with crappy hires ???? He is no pro in picking coaches! Sounds like a Jerry Jones just wants to have the say in it, and is pretty ignorant

A lot of chatter now about bringing back Lane, I can't believe it but I'm starting to warm up to the idea! They better do the contract right tho

Good comparison with JJ, they stay on a Power Trip all the time. POWER POWER POWER

Man you guys are a pessimistic bunch. I understand the frustration though. As a Bama fan I remember the Dubose-Franchione-Price-Shula years, but dang folks. Much like Alabama, Tennessee is a historically top 20 football team with great facilities, a huge recruiting footprint(probably bigger than Alabama's) the State School, plenty of money, in one of the best conferences, warm climate etc... It seems like I'm way more confident than most of you that TN will end up with a good hire.

As a side note I've been on the record for over a month saying Lane Kiffin would be a great re-hire. ...but I think there are dozens more good to great coaches that would jump at the opportunity to coach at Tennessee.
