If you find something you and your gun like, you should buy enough to last 5-10 years.
Not to disagree, but there can be a downside to stocking up with such a large supply of anything we like :D

Many components are constantly being improved.
Sometimes we discover better, and may have a hard time justifying wasting the still good stuff we have in such great supply.

I bet I'm not the only one who still has a good supply of what was once the best turkey shells anyone could load,
obsoleted by "Hevi shot",
later obsoleted even more by much "heavier" shot,
and now all the above somewhat obsoleted by TSS shot.

I still have a good supply of the "old" Federal Heavyweights,
and see no reason to not use them on many my hunting opportunities,
especially considering so many of my "set-ups" make a shot beyond 35 yds unlikely.
The good "old" ones are being used as killer squirrel & waterfowl shells as well :tu:

Back around 1990, some big duck-hunting buddies of mine purchased several cases of copper-plated #5 Winchester Super-X Magnum waterfowl loads.

They got a great deal on them, only to find out a short time later "lead" loads had been made illegal for duck hunting nationwide.

I probably still have some of those shells,
as they also made great turkey shells for me, long before I became aware we "needed" anything special to kill a turkey.

Started in 2013. I love everything about it.

Tom Kell wrote about "The Waiting." Meaning the long, dreary pre-spring when duck season is over and there is really nothing you can do to prepare for turkey season. Hand loading turkey shells solves that problem.
