Weather Forecast

Going to pull the trigger today and plant two plots with buckwheat and cereal rye. Looking like we will be getting some rain on friday and saturday but not looking like Knox County will be getting a fraction of what you West TN guys will hopefully be getting.

Calling for possible flooding here now. We will take it, but sure hope it's not too much too fast. Fresh seeded plot is on high ground, but it's on sloped ground, may have washes.

We definitely got the rain we had prayed for. 4.01" for the entire event. My BIL was out yesterday and said the seed was germinating. I'll check it out personally in a couple of days.
I planted my plots last Wednesday, and my cell cams are showing they have already greened up.

I'll have to say I'm very jealous. Forecast called for close to 5" so I rushed to the farm to overseed 5 acres of plots with wheat/crimson/turnips before the "tropical storm" moved in. We're lucky if we ended up getting 0.5". Frustrating to say the least.

I feel for you Quailman. I did the same for a previous forecast rain event and got nearly zip from it. Seed laid there for weeks. But I hit the jackpot on the second system. Overseeded and got 4" of rain.

Last year I had to overseed the plot 4-5 times. The last time was in early December. The dry conditions just kept persisting. Winter rye saved the plot.

This year the same plot was sewn with black oats/clover/chickory/radish/ buckwheat a couple of weeks ago when rain was predicted. The buckwheat and radish have sprouted and are doing fair. The oats did not take. Last week it was overseeded with black oats and wheat. The predicted rains were meager. Rains are again predicted for next week so it will be seeded with oats again if it looks likely for moisture.

There are 4 bags of winter rye waiting to come to the rescue in October and November.

I've got 700 lbs of wheat seed sitting and waiting for a rain closer to season. I want the wheat up only 6-8" at MZ opener.

You must not have many deer. My wheat never gets above 6 to 8 inches until spring green up.
Based on the number of deer I saw in our soybean field last week, I definitely need to kill several does this year.

Thankfully didn't have any erosion issues. Oats are taking off nicely, didn't see any clover in this plot yet.
