. . . . VA allows rifles during spring season. . . . . i'm not going to bash someone for it cause it's legal.
I was aware of this, but it is still mind blowing to me.
Prostitution is legal in Nevada,
but if my son-in-law engages in that "legal" activity there,
I'm still going to bash him, maybe like bash in his head?

IMO, that ONE DEATH is too many, and the regulation should be be reviewed, if nothing more, from a safety standpoint. I just do not see how anyone who truly understands the ground game of turkey hunting can vote for allowing rifles to be legal. Again, mind blowing.
Totally Agree with you, Andy.

Smoking weed in CO is legal, but come back to TN and go to work and get busted on drug test, it doesn't matter. Gambling is legal Vegas too, but a lot of people are against it. If you're son-in-law is single, then you have no right say what he can or can't do. if he's married to your daughter, then you should just kill him and not worry anymore about him..lol

I will say the most intense, intense, proudest turkey hunts of my life didn't have anything to do with a call. There is more than one way to kill a turkey. Different people like different things. Just agree to disagree. I personally hate people using decoys on my lease because basically it makes an area off limits to me and I cover ground. But the decoy hunters prolly dislike my way just as much because I cover a lot of ground.

If my son-in-law were single, then
he wouldn't be my son-in-law :tu:

Not a thing! I know a few people that their daughters had past away and still call her husband their son in law even after many years after death.

Archibald Rutledge and Henry Davis "thought it an abomination that people were allowed to shoot gobblers during the spring season and likened it to shooting fish in a barrel. They thought it much more sporting to bust up a group of turkeys in the fall and call them back in and hunt them by stealth than use hen calls during the mating season to bring even wary old birds running foolishly to gun." And this is what our forefathers thought of where our sport. These quotes were before dekes, fanning and TSS and just their thoughts on being able to kill a love sick gobbler.

Good morning Setterman........ :stir: :tu:

You don't need 13 pages of calls to kill a turkey either

Your right catman you just need a fan or a full strut decoy that simple. You could have 30 pages of calls out in the field in the hands of the best callers.... and wouldn't make the same impact a single fan would for the first half of season.... just my opinion

You're right you don't need all those calls. I'd say the majority of turkeys killed anymore you don't need a single call. Just a fan or a strutter and a gun.

Been my experience that busting up a group young turkeys fall or spring will result in shooting them like fish in a barrel.

I have a Clift call from Mr. Clift of Bolivar, Tn.
Good call and he was/is one of the best and earliest ambassadors of Tennessee turkey hunting.

I've never understood why hunters want to bash other hunters about the way they like to hunt? We get enough of that from the anti's! Whether it's the ground hunters bashing the treestand hunters, the bowhunters bashing the rifle hunters, or the non decoy users bashing the decoy users. Who cares? I have a couple private farms that I hunt. I usually put a ground blind on both of them. I rarely sit in them, but it's nice if it starts raining or if I bring my boys. I've used decoys before and if I live til season starts, I'll use them again. Do I use them every time? No. In some states, it's legal to hunt with a high powered rifle. I personally don't want to shoot one with a rifle, but I'm not gonna give somebody hell that does. I might be different, but I could care less what means other people use as long as it's legal. Just my .02

I think the issue is sometimes what is legal may not be ethical and what is ethical may not be legal. I personally do not have any issues except with rifle hunting turkeys, due to safety. I do have issues when regulators use what is legal to drive sales. We need to focus on game management and sometimes that is people management. Method and means can be used to limit harvests.
