Today I found out the specs on the base of 16ga shell are .815" I had reloaded some Win SuperX hulls to shoot this past weekend. Each shell had been reloaded 5+ times previously. Apparently the last outing/resizing had expanded the base to .823" or more on most of my hulls. I didn't know this until Sunday afternoon when I couldn't close the action on my Citori. At the range I couldn't assess the issue - it was a bit embarrassing and befuddling - but back at the bench with my calipers and google it was an easy diagnosis. Even after 1000's of reloads, there is so much still to learn...

Loaded up some reloads for my new 308 win Xbolt. First loads will be starline brass, Fed 210 primers, Varget starting at 45.7gr and incrementally working to max with the bullets set .025-.030 off the lands. If that doesn't work, I may tinker around with RL15. I also have IMR 4064 and 4895. Hoping I can find a sweet spot with the Varget.

Got in an order from midsouth, carried the boxes down to the bench. Now I need to do some cleaning up on my bench and table and put stuff away. Looking forward to testing out the varmint nightmares and seeing how they stack up against the nosler varmageddons. Got 2000 of those.

Went to New Orleans over the weekend. Had my wife stop by few places. Ended up picking up several HS6 and Longshot up. I needed more powder for my 28ga. I did seen alot more powder than i though i would see. Fount 209 win and cheddite primers . Didnt even look at the other primers. Seen several 8 pd kegs too.

I have a finicky 7mm-08 mountain 700 with the thinnest of barrels. I finally found a load where the first shot day-to-day is spot on - 43g of Varget pushing a 140g Partition at 2835. I loaded up all that had I tonight (23 rounds) and am ready for the season.

Went to the range yesterday again to fine tune a load for my new browning 308. I think I've settled in on 150 partitions with 46gr of varget. This is a 5 shot group at 100yrds. I rushed the second shot a little, and I think that's what caused the one flier. Still a very good 5 shot group at 100.

On a side note. Anyone who has never used the Leopold CDS system I highly recommend checking it out. Once you zero at 100 and get your new dial back it makes shooting at longer ranges a breeze. I was shooting very good groups with it all the way out to 400yrds yesterday and the dial was dead on. Check it out if you haven't already.

Good shooting!

Trying to work up a 300 WM load for elk this fall. New to reloading. Yesterday I loaded and shot 9, cleaned the barrel, and loaded 15 more. Today I shot them. How often do you guys clean between shots?
