Velvet

Ski, my personal opinion (questionable at this time of year), but 3-year-old on left, 4-year-old on right.

Thanks! That was my leaning as well but hadn't confirmed it yet. Once I get more recent pics I'll be able to match with last year's pics and have a better idea. But for now I think you're exactly right.

Only seen 1 buck on the farm this summer. Normally have a herd of 50-60 does/fawns with a few small bucks hanging around.
Seeing very little in the way of any deer. A couple doe/fawn pairs. Have been finding a lot of deer skeletons, all female based on the skulls.
Huge "deer" tracks in the pond edge mud. Like 100 sized cigarette pack big. Our deer don't get close to that size. Best guess is a few turned out red deer hanging around.
Lots of hog trails. Lots of coyote tracks.

Are the antlers still growing as long as they are in velvet. Or have most reached the point of topping out. I don't hunt the velvet hunt just because I always thought they probably had more growing to do. But I also get the cool factor in it.
I killed one a couple of years ago during the velvet hunt that was still in velvet but clearly wasn't growing anymore. Most of the bucks where I hunt have lost their velvet by Sept. 4th, and many by the 1st.

Some nice ones in this thread!

I wasn't planning on it, but this guy showed up last week on camera. I'm sure he's been around, but I've had camera issues and finally got it resolved. Can't pass up an opportunity as I can only bow hunt this place. I had pics of him last year also.

That deer would certainly have me out sweating the August heat! Big guy!!!

Last little push. Most are just filling out now. The velvet hunt is so close to when they are coming out of velvet they are done just have to rub the velvet off. I killed a deer in 2022 the day after Thanksgiving in full velvet. But he only had one nut.
A kid I went to high school with lost a nut jumping trampoline.
